Somebody had an empty red tool box and wondered who made it and what it had contained. I found one that looks the same, except it's clearly marked Proto, and it has its contents. Check ebay item number 330622157458.

The Proto box is very similar, but not exactly the same as skip's unmarked box & my Fleet.

Notice the two "crinkles" along the front bottom of the latter two boxes that is absent from the Proto. Still obviously the same "family" though...

I wonder what the krinkles are. I hadn't noticed them. Other than that, though, it looks to me like all three were made in the same factory. Hinges, closure, socket slot, corner treatment -- all the same. Oh, wait. The socket slot in the Proto is reversed.

No idea what the crinkles are, but now that you mention it, I think the socket slot in Skip's box is the same as the Proto. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo...

The crinkles prevent overclosure of the top lid.

LOL! I feel like an idiot. You are obviously correct...

Proto 4700B shown for reference. Note the formerly shiny chrome hasp. The paint is not a hammertone finish.
