Title: Luthiers tools violin makers stuff
Post by: skipskip on December 29, 2015, 11:30:37 AM
I went to see some tools yesterday,I  passed on the large shop tools,  like a shopsmith and a bench router , all late model stuff  but did get a box of violin makers things.

Seems the fellow taught a class in violin making at the local college.

any info would be appreciated, as I have a vague outline of the names and uses, but not anything specific

I also got boxes of wood and violin parts and some things related but unknown to me.

Hope this doesn't turn into a new hobby

Check the little planes for a makers mark, although most of them aren't marked.  They can bring some good money...not enough to retire on but more than you might think.  The marked ones more yet.

Check Jim Bode's web site, link below, for a rough idea of what the high end would be.
