Title: In search of S-K lectrolite
Post by: JUNK-MAN on November 22, 2015, 05:49:28 PM
I recently got an S-K Lectrolite socket box, it has greyish gold wrinkle paint and a sticker in the lid that has an S-K diamond with a second diamond with Lectrolite in it I had none of the original sockets or tools in it and I believe it was 1/2 do the length around (17 1/2") and I think it included 3/8 because it has a large socket tray with a smaller one witch only fits 3/8 sockets. I would be a interested in any sockets that would go with that set and the drive tools for the kit if anyone will sell them for cheap, if you do contact me and feel free to post pics of your complete Lectrolite sets so I know what to look for. Sorry no pictures, Thanks

I bet we would all love to see  pics of lectrolite sets.

I have some raised panel combo wrenches and a couple pair of pliers but a complete socket? Oh my!!

Never seen nor heard of S-k / Lectrolite sockets, ratchets or drive tools.  Now I have to do some research.  You should really post a pic of that box.................

Looks like they had a full line.  This from March, 1961 Popular Mechanics.

Early on S-K only made sockets and partnered with Lectrolite to also offer wrenches. At some point (sk-wayne era if you by some estimates) S-k and Lectrolite became one.

Here's an example of Lectrolite and SK-Lectrolite and we all know what an SK wrench looks like

todd just posted some info this morning, it appers that S*K and Lectrolite remained separate companies right up until Symington-Wayne bought them both.

I just happened to see it a little bit after posting above. I'm pretty sure they were doing business together prior, just don't know how long.

I run across a lot of SK, SK-Wayne & SK-lectrolite wrenches and a lot of SK, SK-Wayne socket tools in my flea market adventures.
I have NEVER seen any SK-lectrolite sockets, rachets or extensions.

In my Lectrolite drawer I found a heap of wrenches and some pliers.

one set of water pump pliers is marked Tru-Fit  one of Lecrolite's brands

All the rest are marked Lectrolite, including the adjustables.

So, in these sets the socket tools were marked SK and the wrenches marked Lectrolite (or SK-Lectrolite) ?

yep, never seen a socket or drive tool with lectrolite either. I believe the OP's box is labled SK-lectrolite because at some point they (SK) were marketing the tools as SK-lectrolite indicating they were one company instead of two separate companies. but the tools themselves were still stamped as SK or lectrolite then later SK-lectrolite (then even later S-K).

Lots of SK to be found in my area , almost 0 lectrolite of any kind.
Always an education on this forum, thanks for sharing

The adjustables are kind of cool in the sense I don't recall ever seeing one up here. See a fair amount of wrenches marked lectrolite but no sockets or adjustables.

Thanks for all the comments guys, from research on other forums and around the web I'm pretty sure the pieces of the set were only marked S-K and not S-K Lectrolite so now I need to find a picture of that set so I can start filling up my box I already have an S-K 1/2" ratchet and I may have 1 or 2 of the sockets so I just need to find the rest.

Although I've never seen a set nor a catalog description I wouldn't be surprised if that box also contained a few wrenches also.
Just an assumption based on both logos being on the box.

I think so too, It would make sense. Does anyone know how to access to catalogs on the alloy artifacts site? I cant get them to open.

I have a series of the 3/8" SK / Lectrolite 3/8" sets.  (So far 5 sets, I think.)
3 sets are handy, I'll post when I get home.

As far as I know, you can't access any catalogs on AA.

I've been remiss (or, otherwise occupied) in posting more catalogs to my site.  I have a ton but just haven't found the time to scan and post them.  Been focused more on the tools thus far.

I doubt wrenches were included in the set. I think the inclusion of lectrolite on the label was intended just to show that they were now one company.

Here is the 3/8"  set with a couple of cousins.  The sockets are 3/8 and 1/4".

Larger are a little over 11", smaller is 9-1/2" long.  I have a few more around here somewhere.  At one point I was going to collect 1 from each type / label.

The tools in that gold box are in excellent shape.

This is what is inside of the 1964 SK-Wayne catalog.  I think we must assume early 1964 was the end of Lectrolite.  http://toolarchives.com/node/1653

The large set in the silver/grey box looked narely used. Only 3 sockets look like they were ever used and one of those was barely used. The plastic on the 1/4" driver looks perfect.  The outside of the box is another story, it had oil dropped on one back corner and paint dropped on it sometime. I am guessing it just sat on a shelf for years.

The small set was missing a 1/4" six point socket.

I added the 1/4"  driver to the large blue set after I saw it in the other set.

On all the sets ive seen the tools are S-K, the only Lectrolite reference is on the box label.  I have lectrolite / s-k wrenches with either and both.

May I request a favor?  I'm doing a study now on the S-K 2-letter codes, and you obviously need a "catch point" to start the dating from.  Should y'all have a spare moment, might you please check your S-K Lectrolite stamped (BOTH NAMES) wrenches and let me know if anyone finds a 2 letter code (forged not stamped).  Thanks much!!  Todd

The 2 SK/Lec I have are C22 = M, C30 = None (I think)

All the Lectrolites have only 1 letter

Some of the SK, SK Wayne, SK Tools have 2 letters

Thanks gents.  Most of my S-K Wayne items have a 1 letter stamp, which now looks like it was carried over from the Lectrolite "partnership."  It looks like they used a single letter, double letter, single number and double number conglomeration of codes during the Wayne era (I have examples of each).  Once Dresser got them up and running under their umbrella, everything appears to be 2-letter codes.  Some of my examples (Link: http://toolarchives.com/S-K_Date_Codes) have a letter or a number either under or over the 2-letter code, as well as a T forged in the opposite side of the wrench, on the same side of the shank.  I have a feeling this is going to take some time to figure out!!!

Here's more to confuse things

Lectrolite - A, C. F, H,

Lectrolie Tru Fit - 5 3.9,

SK - W, AT T, GE, 1 KE,

SK Wayne - B, AH, AW, BB, V1,

SK Tools - 2 AN, BW 1,

Tru-Fit - D, J, K, N, Q, R, W, X, B 4.0, J 8.0, M 10.0, N 3.8, 2.4.0,

Now I need to dig out my lectrolite / Tru-fit wrenches.  That might make thing a heck of a lot easier if the codes (which it kinda looks like) came from Lectrolite.  It'd really be cool if they go back to '32, and start with "A."

Everything is packed away in a barn Pennsylvania. I probably wouldn't be able to look until springtime

Here's my half-assed inventory. I started by just listing #'s and size but gradually expanded to list everything on the wrench. That means that some wrenches should have more information on them.
