I'm Back
Today's find,
Really interesting all steel "Machinist Square" ?
The item is not marked with a maker mark that I can find.
It measures approx. 17" x 8", Extremely well made and has decorative diamond patterns(goes thru to both sides) that are made with alternating brass and copper pins.
It has a total of 33 dowels in it, 24 decorative brass/copper pins and another 9 steel pins holding the base together, 5 large pins in the corner, two in the middle and two more on the end.
It appears the base is made from 2 pieces of steel and pinned together(with 33 dowels).
The fitment is so accurate the pins are almost invisible.
There is a little slot through the base, whats that for ?
It is pretty heavy, all steel, weighs maybe 4 or 5 lbs.
Any information would be appreciated.
It looks pretty old to me, turn of the century maybe older .
Thanks for the Awesome forum !
Nice right ?

Looks very nice. It seems to have a custom made look to it. Hard to make out the slot in the base, could it be to slide in another square to make parallel lines for some specific job ?

wasn't there another post that said it was for holding up on longer pieces by putting in the attachment
when needed ???

I'm not 100%, but I believe I have a nearly identical, but smaller one in a big box of old tools I picked up a while ago... I'll go digging for it when I get a chance...
I think the slot would be used for an anlge finder to pass through it... But that's just speculation.

Twillight, If you dig out the one you have it would be interesting to know if it would fit into the slot on the one that junk250 has.

I believe you are not mis-remembering.

Thanks for the replies.
I know it's hard to tell much with the crappy pics, but I was exited to show it.
I'll try to get some better pics up soon showing more detail .
It seems like a manufacturer would have put a maker mark on it, whoever made it was very skilled I'll say that much.
Any guess on the age?

Nope, I was remembering wrong... I do have one with brass dowels, but the fat part is made of wood, and the pins run through this.... Goofy tri-lobal shaped thing... I'll have to take a picture... It's fancy, but not as fancy as the OPs
