Does anyone care about drill bits? I've gotten enough heaps of rusty twist drills that I've started to be able to recognize (say) Italian bits and English ones, though I can't yet distinguish Cleveland Forge from Morse or Chicago Latrobe without looking closely (the cheap junk is easy to recognize: it's the one flying in shards across the room...). And realized that I've never heard anyone express an interest in these everyday workhorses: even nails have their enthusiasts (see Dickie Jones of TATHS). If the following (all of which, I assume, are 1/4" pilot bits for hole saws) were wrenches or handsaws, the differences would all be meaningful, at least to someone. But I'd guess that no one can tell me which of these three styles of bit is made by whom. Prove me wrong!

PFS, ya' drill bits are cool! If one comes from a high volume metal working background they know that you "live or die" by your choice of drill bits. Drill bits, love em' all... jobbers, aircraft, four flute core drills, split point fast helix 1/4 " crankshaft drills (pecker drills), gun drills, left hand, spade drills, step drills, center drills, number size, letter size, fractional size, straight shank, taper shank, whistle stop... love em all

My guess is the 3rd one shown is used on a Greenlee hole saw arbor.

It's funny you should mention drill bits, I picked up this 14 in peice of metal that I decided I needed to own. It looks to me like it is a 14 in extension for a bit and brace. I'm not positive about it, but the bit fits in it pretty well. Here are some pics

Definitely an extension for a brace, and one I've not seen before. Good grab!

Hi dear, I just got about 200 or 300 drill bits in. .... from the infamous auction purchases made..... Are any of particular interest to you? Are certain ones rare? Anyhow, if you are looking for anything in particular I can look through them. Ok

I'm looking for a 1/2 inch auger bit and a 3/8 auger bit -- not the usual sort, but bits that are made to fit into a T handle.

I'll be on the look out.... haven't gotten to the drill bit stack that is ever growing!
