Title: Little help?
Post by: rustcollector on January 15, 2015, 06:39:02 PM
Being a wrench person, and having some but limited knowledge outside that world.... What is the name of these? One is marked Greenlee, which made me think I knew what I was looking at, but any search that direction turned up nothing. I'm sure they are nothing special, just can't name 'em.

Are they simply auger bits modified into turn screws?

It kind of looks like it is made to turn if a slotted handle is pulled up that twist.  Kind of like an archimedes drill.

Just one guys swag.

Twisted shank screwdrivers are fairly common - but not as much as these are.... Reuse of old auger bits sounds reasonable to me..

You all might be right. Upon closer inspection, I think they were hammered down. Well done if that's the case. They will go to ebay, not something I need.

Thanks

It looks like on the middle one there's three hammer marks, so ime with everyone else's guess.
