Title: What tool would you like for Christmas
Post by: Nolatoolguy on December 14, 2014, 07:01:12 PM
So as Christmas comes what's everyone want?

I of course want a safe holiday season with all my family an friends. Everyone in good health an safe is all that really matters to me. Stuff is stuff an an as proven with the fire its replaceable with time an money. I can always replace a pair of jeans but people are what matters.

As far as what I would like well a 3/4 drive socket set would be nice. Armstrong has a nice set but at 2600 bucks I won't be buying it anytime soon. I have actually been keeping my eye on Craigslist for a really well priced american made set. I got a cheap harbor freight one that I abbsolutley hate. I had to replace the ratchet twice, an 4 of the sockets. I use a old breaker bar breaker bar more often then the ratchet cause the ratchet is so short an both times I put a cheater pipe on the ratchet it broke.

Most of the tools I want, have made their way to me except for one.   When I was a kid, had a neighbor that carried a little wrench in the pliers pocket of his bib overalls.   It was probably a Crescent brand, combination double header 6 and 8 inch adjustable wrench.   I asked dad why we didn't have one, said he didnt' think much of having one on each end like that.  We had plenty of Crescent adjustables on the farm, one on each tractor, and I still have a few of them.   Been looking for years for one of these, any brand, but all seem to have a bit of gold in them.   Not asking for one here, but if the wife puts one under the tree, it would please me quite a lot.  So its one old wrench or a Bridgeport mill!

Unfortunately it's not going to happen.

Xmas is not about gifts anyway, it's about spending time with your family.

And a very Merry Xmas to all the members of Papaws tool Talk, and a special Merry Xmas and a big thank you to the man Papaw himself.

Dittos on family and health.  There are no particular tools I'm wishing for.  Although i bet I could come up with a big list if I thought about it!

A family tradition continues. My mom's uncle used to set up a village and train set every Christmas.  When Mom was older she started setting up a village.  We set this up for Christmas to delight the grandchildren:

I suppose there.s lots I want but nothing I need. Family and friends being healthy and happy are what I like to see. A little more snow would be nice because we don't have quite enough to pull out the snowmobiles, and a little more ice on the lake would be good so we can do some ice fishing over the holidays. All the best to everyone, have a good Christmas and New Year.

Dad's brought $210.00 in 1994 --

For those who are not MVWC members, I'll try to attach the 1915 "new product" article for the "THREE BIT" screwdriver (which sold for 65 cents in 1920.).

I had seen pictures of that screwdriver, but never had seen the real McCoy.

65 cents in 1920,  there were many people then that would have thought they were rich
if they had 65 cents to spend on a screwdriver.

 good luck getting one Papaw.

Very little I need.  I'm actually working on having less stuff.

I wouldn't turn down a Walker-Turner or Wadkin MZF bandsaw (both 16", about the largest that will go in my shop), but Santa would have a heck of a time fitting those down the chimney.

Oh, I also wouldn't turn down the right woman for our younger son, preferably interested in having kids or even already so equipped (young, please - the kids).

Pictures are too small, I would like to see bigger. I like the trains scenes

Myself and the wife went to Harbor Freight yesterday and they have a VERY nice seemingly well built welding cart with drawers ect. Its a shame cause I already have a decent welding cart for my small 220 welder but if I manage to somehow get this H.F version I will be replacing what I have.

In case anyone is in need of a welding cart I recommend this one http://www.harborfreight.com/welding-cabinet-61705.html

Yes alot of their stuff is junk but in my opinion alot of the stuff is very well worth the money

This will be the first year of hopefully many to come when I don't spend a couple days driving all over handing out 2 pound boxes of Christmas extortion candy to secretaries so I spend minimal time on HOLD.
I only had to buy 36 pounds of chocolate this year, bought 40 just in case I forgot somebody.  What the hell, some of them gals ain't bad looking and hopefully one or two got divorced.  A man has to keep an inventory.

Only thing I'd like to have is the Silver Dollar John Wayne & Mickey Rooney gave me back a lot of years ago.  Like to find my brother too, but I haven't been able to do that since 1965 so it ain't likely going to happen and I ain't going to look too hard.  Things are what they are.

Christmas don't mean a whole lot to me.

When we were kids my parents would bring myself and brother to my mothers sister boyfriends home.
He had a special room set up year round with a massive train exhibit, it would change with the seasons, dont know where he found the time.
Absolutely amazing, the detail that I never would have imagined did exist.
Thanks for the pictures, brought back good memories.

I bought a little over $3, 000 in candy this year.  Work reimbursed me, though. I like going around with the Christmas stuff.  This year I got over a thousand mugs, filled them with candy, and wrapped them or put them in baskets and wrapped that.  Well, to be honest, Mrs. Chilly and my daughters did the work. They don't care for my wrapping quality.....

Chilly - the Christmas treat, mug toting, pipefitter.

Great pipe coverer in the sky Chili, what kind of a fitter forces wife & children who aren't even members of the pipe covering brotherhood to wrap mugs filled with candy?

You just tack a flange on one end of a nipple large enough to hold the pipe, torch out a handle relief and go to town with the job.  Stick the center of a hunk of red or green cellophane florists use on the end of the mug, sit it into the nipple fill as desired, squish covering material with vise grips, tie with ribbon, and NEXT.

You forgot to make a fingertip blade holder, didn't you.  No wonder you had to bring in help.  You couldn't slash wrapping on your own.  Did the wife charge by the mug or by the hour?

Lol

In chillys defense I didn't wrap any of my own presents this year either. My best friend wrapped them all for me. I started but my wrapping skills are not up to her standard, so she took over. Also half the gift ideas came from her.

Chily an me just aren't cut out to be gift wrappers.

Nice try Nola, but if you can force metal to bend to your desires, you can wrap with paper.

We both know you just scammed the girl by faking inability.
Your ability to get over with that will soon end.
Such is life.

One year 5 of us guys filled the mugs. We were told many times how bad it was.

& she gets paid. Can't exactly say how, but it is commonly known that we have been on our honeymoon for 33-1/2 years.......

Now you know why I am so chill & relaxed.

For me, I would love a 10 by 20 greenhouse and a few of the items on my long list of eifel plierench sets, but I will take good health for me and mine for the coming year and be fine without too many additional complaints.

Santa was good to me, with a new stihl chainsaw. It's a stihl ms 441, with 25 inch bar.

Well it was more like insurance. We had a dispute over a few things. I figured it was a total loss with the chainsaws that were in out little screened in patio. They came back after a few emails/calls saying they will cover it. Well my dad never told me such till today.

I am very happy with it all. We had 3 good stihl saws with a whole bunch of extra chains bars an misc stuff. It's a loss as it wasn't all replaced but it's better then nothing.

Merry Christmas
