Does any craftsman out there make the little double loop spring for the Sedgley hex drive ratchet per Patent # 1224223? It is approx. 5/8 " ctr to ctr. Chuck Garrett

Shouldn't you be able to make that out of a piece of music wire? When I was a kid we used to buy it at a hobby shop. As I recall it was available in different diameters.

Are you sure Sedgley didn't just cut the ends off a safety pin?

The spring is a piece of spring wire straight with a small Circle loop on each end and it lays in a groove with one loop bearing against the ratchet shift lever and the other end secured by a small screw to the framw. Not a std spring. The ctr to ctr of loops is 5/8 of an inch. I don't have the tools to form such a spring, sadly. C G

Chuck, if you know a watch repair person, I would check with them.
if they have older tools, they would have a spring winder and they would
have the know how to make such a small spring.

Or a gunsmith -- Sedgley also made pistols so their manufacturing facilities would have had that kind of equipment.

To put a loop in a spring, i would drill a hole in a bolt of the right size and slide one end of the spring thru the hole in the bolt and wind the spring around the bolt. Then i would cut off the spring what was not needed. The outside dia. of the bolt should be smaller than the inside dia. of the loop you need because there will be some spring back.

I'm probably not envisioning the size correctly, but you might be able to use the spring jaw on the 7 inch Plierench?

Such a great idea. I don't need any springs now, but will keep that in mind.

Finally found( well my son bot a pack) a small safety pin and cobbled up one for the time being. Not pretty but works.
