Title: Tools - Found a box at the thrift store
Post by: Bulucanagria on September 30, 2014, 05:45:48 PM
I just took a casual glance at it and picked the whole thing up and took it to the counter. It didn't have a price on it so I had to wait while the young girl behind the counter who "didn't know about tools" got her manager. I thought, "Great, the manger will know just enough about tools to think this is worth $100". The manger shows up and says, "Um, I'd like to get $15 for the whole bin."

And so you shall, dear madam, so you shall.

(Actually, it's an independent church thrift shop and they do good work so I rounded up to $20.)

FYI, there are a few pieces here that I'm gonna want more info on so you'll be seeing them around with questions attached. It may take a while as I'm way too busy these days, but they'll be popping up here and there.

To get discussion rolling, can anyone tell me a bit about the Marson Klik-Fast pop-riveter in the photo. It's marked HP-1. I find tons of info about their HP-2 online but Google yields nothing about this piece. It's not really my style to keep so I'd like to move it along. Is there a market for it and what value might it have?

The little pipe wrench is nice :)

The HP-1 only has one fixed size tip, the HP2 comes with multiple tips so you can use different sized pop rivets

PS: They called them 'klik-fast' because 'pop-rivet' was still trademarked by United Shoe Machine
Other makers had still different terms for them...(SNAPO's, POW's...)

Aaaah! Sweet, sweet knowledge...I do love it so!

I like that pipe wrench as well. It's the first one of its kind that I've owned. Likewise my first drawknife.

It's funny. I've always had a few tools that I kept for aesthetic purposes but I honestly recently got into it a little more heavily to flip them. While I have sold a good few tools I'm finding it more and more difficult to let go of some of them.

That's how the addiction starts, at least it was for me.

Second picture just below the egg beater drills on the lower right. It is a Parmelee (spelling?) style that wraps around the pipe. You need a different set of jaws for each size of pipe.

Like this,

I cropped the pipe wrench out of the picture and included a few close ups of the head. They don't really show the way it's constructed but they do show that Lewill2's spelling was correct, so that's something.

I believe I have extra jaws if your looking for each size. I'll have to dig them out to see what I have if your interested.

If you can keep "flipping" them, and keep out the good stuff for your own use, you won't need a bigger shop soon.   Of course to get a bigger shop one needs a bigger lot, with a bigger house, more taxes, it is a vicious circle!   Real good $20 buy.
