Title: Hog Control ?
Post by: jimwrench on August 13, 2011, 03:49:26 PM
Heres a tool made by BellHart Tool Co of Palmyra,Il Found a tool by BellHart that was a tendon cutter for hogs noses. It was patent 253359 of 1882 but is not this tool. Assume this tool to be some related concept but haven't been able to confirm. If someone has a copy of Onie Sims Hog control book it may list this tool.I have tried to find a copy of this book but it is out of print.

Found the pair covered by the patent hanging in my garage. Use description in patent is pretty gross;but if your pig is rooting under the fence I guess all means are employed,at least in 1882. Would these send peta into convulsions?
Now the pair from the garage are ided but still don't know usage on pair prompting this thread.
They were both made within 100 mile of here and inventor (O. Ewing) lived only 5 mile from where I sit.
Only the company name on last pair led to patent on first pair. Jim Moffett identified them for a whatsit for MWTCA.

Third picture is of unidentified nippers with top cutter deployed.
Fourth picture is of unknown thing but coudn't figure out how to delete it.

Heres my latest two pair of hog snouters from Thurs auction. Neither is marked. First pair has an adjustable stop to adjust depth of cut which is a little unique. Wood block on first pair is a little lighter in color due to fact that its only 5 minutes old. Rubbed in ashes so its not quite so glaring. New pieces on old tools tend to stand out but this is intended as a replaceable piece.
Still looking for info or source for Onie Sims book on Hog Control.
