Hey Richard
My advise is to just start. Get a couple junkers and go to work. Read a little, practice a little.
You'll get it.
I hardly had any help at all when I started. Just an old Audels Carpenters and builders. And I figured it out.
You can too.
There are vast resources available on the web now.
yours Scott

As NIKE says- "Just do it!"
Of course you need to learn about sawsets, sawwrests, proper files and techniques, kerfs and all that other jargon.
We have members here who are masters at it, and some of us that just putter about, but we are here to answer any questions you may have.

My dad told me the best way to sharpen a saw is with a large grinder.
However I still can not figure out how to get the salami out of the teeth afterwards.
