Title: Hauck Blow Torch
Post by: Branson on May 28, 2014, 06:41:55 AM
Interesting torch on eBay.  I've never seen one quite this large:

That will fetch a fair price, I'll love to add it to my collection but I bet it would cost a mint to ship downunder.

This torch was in the Hauck Catalog 1915

Quote
"This torch is especially suitable for straightening and brazing of safety appliances on freight cars. A large number of grab irons and hand holds become bent while in service. They can be bent back very easily into thier regular shape with the aid of a Hauck Hand Kerosene Torch, eliminating all breakage.
A great many parts are broken by trying to straighten them cold; this is especially true in winter time when the frost is in the iron. This torch can also be used for burning paint and other heating operations. Hauck Torch will pay for itself quickly. It is more efficient and powerful than any other gasoline  torch and will do work which can not be done with any other torch"

Rated as rare.....I want it!!

From what I can see it would be around $78.00 for shipping.

This smaller one looks interesting to a non torch guy like me.

Unfortunately the US does not offer sea freight anymore, I often buy torches from Canada and have them shipped this way.
I don't know of any less expensive ways to ship downunder, Australia's postage cost are similar to yours, we do still have sea freight option though.

USPS doesn't offer it, but I think some freight carriers might.  Kinda riskier though.
I had a package of minerals sent here from India.  Gave up on it. They finally arrived 18 months later.

Are you going for it?

Thanks Papaw, it won't be a cheap torch and along with shipping I don't think I can afford this one.

What if we can win it at $10 plus the $22 shipping to me? Then it would be around $115 US.

I opened it @9.95, just in case.  My shipping is $19 to here, but I have an old friend up there that can grab it.
I may have a way to get it down there. We install fire sprinklers everywhere and we move stuff all over the world.

Nice people visit this site, cheers Papaw.

Batz. Is it cheaper or more feasible to ship from Canada. I have a son in Portland Oregon where I send my Ebay purchases to. WE could have it sent there and the I could take it back to Canada on my next trip and then ship it from Vancouver British Columbia. It would be a while because I'm not back to the USA until September. ? If things don't pan out with Chilly or Papaw this would be another option.

I am staying home and working this week. One of our pm's is using my office. I saw him on Tuesday, he just got back from McMurdow Station at the South Pole.  He will be going to China soon. Another of our fitters is going to China. He'll direct a crew of Chinese pipefitters.

Funny thing - the phones in antarctica have a Colorado area code, based 2 blocks from our shop.

I'm going to talk to our people, should be able to know best way from here early next week. We can compare to other options.

Maybe some old men... Last night at 9:49 I had just started a stage hand shift for a take down.  Finished off at 4:00 am

The old man is the fellow with enough wisdom to convince the other fellow that the fun part of drilling a hole is cranking the handle...
