Title: What is special about these
Post by: john k on April 08, 2014, 10:44:16 PM
yes,  drill bits, or (drills) if you go by the old catalogs.   There is a special use for these.    What is it?  Let the wild guesses run for a bit before the truth sayers have their say.

Looks like my Silver & Deming drills for metal, with cut down shaft for 1/2" or 3/8" drill chuck

Box looks like recent cheap Asian imports.

These all are half inch shanks, with a flat ground on one side, to use in the old post drills.   Those that use a set screw to hold the drill bit.    They are an asian import, but over 30 years old, and cut steel just fine.

Never saw post drill bits this new. They must have been using them in remote parts of the world maybe?

The early post drill bits are straight flute, not twisted.

Half inch shanks with a flat will fit a Cole drill as well.
