Title: Found another #234 wrench-plier
Post by: bonneyman on August 05, 2011, 06:38:46 PM
Picked up 3 tools at a regular pawnie today, and one of them was a Proto wrench-plier, #234. Sort of a cross between a water pump and slip joint pliers. I had one, but was looking for another to throw in the work truck. Nice shape, too. Paid $2 for the group.

Some sort of aluminum hinged clamp, and an APEX adapter 3/8" square to 1/4" hex.
I have a work buddy who uses hex driver bits exclusively, and thought maybe he could use it. And Apex is a good tool.

looks like a clamp to hold a cap on a pick-up  bob w.

Someone at GJ said it was a "truck cap".

I have a pair of those compound leverage pliers. Can't recall the brand marking offhand but they are the spitting image of yours except where someone ground the tips. Excellent pliers though.

I emailed AA once about another brand of these pliers, and they referred me to the Proto example. That's how I found out about it.

Looks like someone took a grinding wheel to the ends of yours, to mod it for a special job or something.

They were none too gentle about it either. I just really hope it wasn't a dentist.

Plomb/Proto OEM'd lot's of stuff for lot's of brands so it's likely they made both examples.

I would have guessed Apex on the little adapter. Pretty distinctive design. I have picked up a couple myself just because they look well made and you just never know when you might get to put it to use. And the price was right too. There is another brand out there that looks almost identical, nicely machined, but I'm pretty sure it's asian. Can't think the name right now of course. It'll come to me.

Very cool finds.  But now I have to find a pair of those pliers!   Maybe a hex adapter. too.
