Well I guess this weekend officially kicks off the 2014 Tool Auction Season.
Great Planes Trading Company has an auction this weekend as well as Martin Donnelly, both advertise that they are accepting absentee bids. On line catalogs are available to view for both auctions.

Enjoy the catalogs and I hope some of you guys get to attend in person. As for me I'll be out of the USA for work so I have my bids submitted already.

That Martin Donnelly auction......boy if I even win half the stuff I've got bids on I'll eating a lot of generic-brand peanut butter sandwiches for the next couple months.
-
I'm in the same boat if not worse because if I still have gas money left I'll be at Browns Dealers Sale and Auction March 28th & 29th, Crafts of NJ Auction April 12th and then maybe some absentee bids at the next Donnelly Auction.

I bid on MJD's auctions sometimes, but at the bottom of the price range. When I win, I am almost never happy with the shipping costs.

Uh-oh. This is my first time bidding there. Now you got me worried.

Now you got me worried.
Nah- I am just a cheapskate!

He really packs things well and I have never had anything from him damaged. Several of my plow planes are in his auctions this year. I might be able to recoup some of my purchases if I get lucky on both ends, buying and selling.
-
good luck, buyers & sellers.
I never had any problem with Martin, I remember him also before he bought Crane out.
he was always at Cranes N.H. auctions bidding.
his auctioneer was broken in by working for Dick Crane.

So naïve question here, but when does MJD notify you if you were a high bidder? And do they publish any list of prices realized? There were a couple items listed that even if I wasn't the high bidder, I'd kinda like to know how much they sold for.
-
Win or lose you will get an email if that is how you bid. The email will tell you what your max bid was and what the hammer price was. If your item is high lighted GREEN you won. If WHITE you lost. Prices realized list usually comes in the next auction catalog. Sometimes with the 2 Spring Auctions being so close you don't get the list until later. Prices realized list gives prices for both the listed auction and the cataloged auction. He really does a nice job. Email should be coming in the next few days. I am patiently waiting too.

Got my email tonight, P&J sandwiches for the rest of the year.
-
Yup, got my email too. Looks like I won the combination tool I really wanted, and got beat out on all the rest. Which is okay. Now I won't have to hock the wife's good silver.

Got my E-mail too Didn't win anything (more to spend at York). Had not bid on Donnelly auctions before;he mentions buyers premium in E-mail. Anyone know how much premium he charges ? Really don't like absentee bids but this one had some parts I could use (lever cap for S5 and wood for a No 2 )
-
Buyers premium is 15% of the Hammer Price.
-
I believe the prices realized list includes the buyers premium.
