Post by: wvtools on March 06, 2014, 06:56:27 PM
Does anyone know the purpose of these Stevens pliers?

Thanks,

John

Maybe an early pair of tongs to tighten tire chains.

Align driveshaft to transmission of Model T Ford when putting engine / transmission  back into the frame .   The alignment of a square shaft and square socket had to take place in an enclosed space by "feel."

Mossberg also had a specialty tool for this operation - no 652 based on patent no ( http://www.datamp.org/patents/advance.php?pn=1515349&id=25150&set=24 ) 1,515,349.  That patent drawing shows the space in which the tool had to work.

I've seen ads for the Stevens tool, but not an example of tool itself.  Can I use your photos in the Missouri Valley Wrench Club Newsletter?

Thanks a lot for the information.  I suspected it was something interesting because I had not seen them before and Stevens made a lot of aftermarket Model T tools.  I will edit my listing accordingly.  I probably should have waited to list it until I found out what they were.  Often, people will bid right away if you do not know what something is.  Ebay will not let you edit a listing after it gets a bid.

Yes, you are welcome to use any pictures from any of my Ebay listings.  I would appreciate a source reference to John Harper/WVTools.com if possible.

If you ever need me to send a copy of any of the pics via email, just let me know.

Here is a link to the listing:

I'm in, but I doubt I'll be able to keep up.

Wilson and Stevens stuff  goes for big $$ these days.

You never know.  I sell a lot of stuff at the opening bid or 0.50 higher.  I would have auctioned these regardless, but I have to auction a bunch of items or I do not sell anything out of my Ebay Store.
