Title: You guys keeping cool up there?
Post by: Batz on January 03, 2014, 10:12:09 PM
41.5 C or 107.5 F under my patio ATM, 2.05 PM.

It's hot enough already, turn it down now please? Record heat all over Australia ATM. I'm not lighting up any blow torches today. :-)

You should come for a visit to the northern prairies in Canada. The truck showed -39C the other nite. Good thing we had very little wind. Too cold and windy this winter so far.

The last time I touched snow I was 12 years old and visiting France, I'm very close to 58 now. I need a visit to some snowy place again.

Not me!!!  I'll go for the 107 over 1 any week of the year.  Maybe it's where I grew up -- you could expect a month at 110 and above.  But 1 degree?  I don't move any better than a lizard at that temp.

My nic is a misnomer anymore.  I am limited as to when I can go outside. Right now @5:30am it is 25ºf.  It needs to come up 1º before I emerge. Much over 90º and I am stuck inside.  Its a good thing that I can work anywhere.  I may have to become a snowbird & live in a warmer place a couple of months each year.

That would give me another place to fill up with tools & stuff.  Hmm, start collecting places?

Our high for today is spose to be 16. That's not incredibly cold for us.

Some schools in the area have already canceled class for Monday because the predicted -30 with wind chill.

-9 degrees at my house this morning, central Connecticut.
Warm weather predicted for Sunday w/rain. Then Monday starts at 40 degrees but will drop to zero by the end of the afternoon. They say it's going to be a record temp. drop for that short of time.

supposed to be 42for a high today (Saturday) Monday 0 for the high, Sunday SNOW, 8-12"  they keep moving the line, but we keep being in the middle of it???? Well the snow will act as insulation! Have a couple of extra gator loads of wood by the house, a good cord of wood. As long as it doesn't get so cold the propane does vaporize or the power go out for any length of time we will be ok.  Some wild swings in temperature this winter!

Its warming up here. -5F at 1145AM. Got down to -17 last night but at least the wind is blowing and gusting to 25-30 MPH.
Wind supposed to pick up so I'm going to look out a window and watch the snow blow away. Retirement is sweet.

well only -7 this morning, 14" of snow 25-35 mph wind, but I'm not in Minnesota!  Would be easier if it just was 14" of snow, 3-4' drifts and bare spots, but the bare spots are never in the right spot! More snow Wednesday! what are we 2 weeks into winter?

Today at 2 pm it was +2 F on the bank.   Quite a rise from the -11 F at 7am, is already minus at sunset, I did not spend a lot of time outside, despite the army mittens, double layer of Carharts and funky old winter hat.

It's 3 degrees with 25 + /- mph winds here and I have a 3 foot drift in my driveway that I really need to snow blow before it's a 5 foot drift. The snow has been blowing sideways since last night and I do not want to go out these. And get this - there is an ice jam on the Niagara River near Niagara Falls. There may be flash flooding.

It's pretty cold in the greater Toronto area too, which is something that doesn't really happen very frequently...

It was -23C (-9.4F) pure temperature this morning, but the wind chill made it feel like -38C (-36.4F).

Any guesses what LGContracting is doing right now? I'm adding a third storey to a house in Bloor-West Village! That's called "bad timing"...

With windchill is was -40 lastnight.

I was at Menards(hardware store chain) this afternoon, for some paint. Walking through I have never saw so many people in the plumbing section. I think just about every plumber and do it yourselfer was there getting plumbing stuff. I guess there was a lot of broken pipes. At least that's what ime figuring.

Doesn't seem to bother my chickens none, their just a pecking away like it was a spring day.
Its kind of a pain in the butt bringing them water every couple hours.

As many of you know, I'm basically nocturnal.  So, when I went down to the store today (the hardware store....  for those of you that don't know me) I said, "It was two degrees when I woke up!"
I wasn't sure why everyone was looking at me, "Was that around three this afternoon?"  I guess my mornings are a little out of tune with regular societies schedules! Anyhow, I imagine it was below zero this past evening.  That is almost incomprehensible to me.  Apparently my car isn't a big fan of those temperatures, either. It didn't want to start, but eventually pulled through.
Mom said she talked to dad at 7 this morning, "Honey, don't you think you should call Jenny and have her start her car?"
"Why would I bother?  Jenny isn't going to pick up the phone at 7am......  that has the same odds of shooting a spear at a goldfish."  I'm not really sure what that meant.
Anyhow, it's pretty cold around here right now.  I thinks it's supposed to be -2 degrees tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Ummmm, us folks in VA aren't used to those tempatures.  I hope everyone is keeping warm and doing well.
I'm trying to sort through a ridiculous amount of Husky sockets.  They seem like they are high quality....  anyone have an opinion.  I love you folks so much.
cheers,
bird.

Cheers for that johnsironsanctuary, but falling on you back only dressed in shorts and in the snow would kill me instantly I believe.

I prefer this.

gawd I love living in the Santa Cruz mountains. The sun just went down a while ago and it's 56°F. Probably won't get below 40°F tonight, and must have been high 60's low 70's all day. Santa Cruz, CA. where the weather is always better :P

Do earthquakes count as weather? LOL

I remember visiting San Diego, everyone was complaining about the weather, apparently, 66F was horribly cold and unseasonable ;P

Yeah, that's about it.  Meh, shrug.   2.5?  Wouldn't notice it.  7?  I'd notice it.  87 miles away I didn't feel the 8.1 Mira Loma quake back in '89.  I do remember and did feel the 8.5 quake that hit southern California in '51 or '52.
