Title: 040784 wrench Allis?
Post by: rustcollector on January 02, 2014, 06:02:21 PM
I got this wrench a while back, looked it up and somehow confirmed that it was indeed an Allis wrench. Problem I have now is remembering where it was I confirmed that. Google search was no help when I tried, nor was the first 2 Rathbone's. Bus, or anybody else know for sure?

Found a reference to that number (040784) on yesterdaystractor.com and it talked about an Allis HD58 Rockford clutch assembly. Pretty vague but hope it helps.

Thanks Ouray. That's the only thing I can come up with now too. But I know when I first got it I had found some tidbit somewhere that mentioned this number and the wrench, but stupid me didn't save that page for future reference and it eludes me now.  I've tried every combination of words I can think of to see what I find and it just hasn't reappeared yet.

040784 is listed in the parts book for the Allis HD9 as a pin. (part of the clutch assy)

Think it is a 9 instead of an 8?
See lot #1395 on Vernon nail auction / wrenching news

(nb: Allis mixes tools and parts in the number sequence..at random..sigh)

Do I think it's a 9? No
Could it be a 9? it sure could be.
Does look like it's closed off on the bottom to be an 8 though.
Rusty may be on to something, I'll dig into that too.

edit.... Thank you Rusty, that is what I had found before, once I saw the picture it all came back to me. Still see mine as an 8, but I am getting old too, the eyes may not see things for what they are all the time.
