Old tools from my grandfather

I'll start off with what we call 'naver' in Norway. These and other tools were rescued by my dad in the 90's from the barn on the small farm were he grew up and are a bit marked by the elements. But still plenty nice for display. The other tools will come later.

Augers, maybe? For drilling into timbers like in log house construction, or pole barn building.
In any case they are neat!

Those are neat, with a chisel-edge starting point. I bet when properly sharp they drill like all get out.

Are the handles wood? They almost look metal in the picture...??

I really like the handles -- so graceful!  I haven't seen these so large, but have several, both with metal and wooden handles.  Here they're known as
gimlet bits.  I once bought a set that were designed to fit in one of the old braces.

Thanks for the feedback. The handles are wood and they were used for whatever needed to be built and maintained on a farm. Houses, barns, boat houses and equipment like fish crates that they used to transport live fish when they rowed to town to sell on saturdays. I reckon the tools were probably shared by the group of small farms in the area.
