A few pipe threaders from an estate sale
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:23:59 PM »
I stopped in at an Estate Sale today just to look and I found & bought these:

I'm not sure what this would be for. It's like a handle for something:

I've never seen square dies like this-but no driver for them:

A nice pipe cutter:

And oil can:

I like this stuff. I needed a reamer, and this fills in a few gaps in my pipe threader collection. There's a few heads from a different company besides Rigid that I haven't ID'd yet.

Whats the project vehicle in the back?
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

Man, all the good estate sales must be in your area.

Nice haul!!!
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

The handle is attached to a ratchet gear, I think it's for use with the reamer, so you don't slip and cut yourself on the sharp pipe end....

I find square dies occasionally with pipe stuff, my guess is the plumbers/pipefitters had them to repair threaded rod (they are bolt thread dies). Lots of plumbing things are hung on rod....

(Yes, they need a totally different die holder, a hard one to find too.)

There is another jewel in there also, you have a spare cutter wheel :)
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Ratcheting stuff is a lot older than I had ever imagined.  I'm still mining the Holtzappfel books.  The intro to the volume where I found this is dated January of 1843.  One page has a drawing, and the second page contains the rest of the description of the tool.

It's a '68 Chevy Panel Truck:-)

I need to go through the box a little closer and see what all smalls there are. Now I can see how that handle would be good for the reamer, there is another reamer in the box (hiding in the shadows) that may go with it.

We have an entire thread dedicated to the history of the NYE company (if you wish to see more info)...

These ones are pipe thread:

And thanks for the link to the NYE Thread. I know I have some more NYE tools around here somewhere. I'll have to dig them out. Meanwhile, I'll post the picture of that pipe cutter on that thread incase those who might be interested miss it in this thread.

These square dies look the same as those^^^, but there's not really a maker mark on them. There is something that's too small for even my giant magnifying glass to bring out.

Here's the rest of the haul.

This is all Toledo Threading Machine stuff. I don't seem to have a small driver head, though, unless the one with the reamer fits those smaller dies. I can't figure out how to get the reamer apart yet. I think it should unscrew from the handle, but it won't budge by hand.

These are run-of-the-mill Ridgid stuff.

A nice Ridgid pipe vise

Some odds & ends. Those two pieces on the right are Plomb. And a reamer for a brace!

A large plane. It says Bailey on it. The handle is broke and it don't seem to have the correct blade. Maybe someone needs some plane parts?

And last but not least, a Tie Tong or whatever they are called and a folding rule that looks like it's never been used.

All this for 30 bucks!
