It went up in January LOL
depending on weight/type, from 3 to 5%

Flat rate is still generally the best deal in town..

In the past few years I've done all my shipping with the USPS, things get there, and usually not beat up.  Usually.  The big brown trucks are good, but USPS has been beating their prices in my book.

Not that I wish this anytime soon Bob but when you do finally go home for good they should put on your tombstone here lies Bob, a man that truly does not like the U.S postal service :)

Real life example; today.

Ebay item x (which is a set of wrenches) has a shipping cost listed at $21.xx.  It is easily something that would fit in a SMALL flat rate box or flat rate padded envelope.....both of which are FREE.

So I send a "Question" to the seller asking why the shipping was at so high IMHO.  I get a quick nasty sounding response along the lines of "take it up with the post office".  So I respond again.  This time I explain in detail the math behind my proposal of shipping flat rate.  I receive another response simply stating "I believe you are correct"

It auction continues 24hrs later unchanged with shipping listed at $21.xx
"FORGED IN THE USA" myself.  Be good to your tools!

I write to sellers all the time.
Many just don't know there are cheaper alternatives.
Some others are trying to generate a lot of extra money and think you are too dumb to notice.

There are a few who are trying to make it as commission selling companies. (We list for you, etc.)
These people are often asked to sell an inexpensive item on commission. 15% of a $10 dollar item ain't much.
So all of these people put big fat shipping charges on.

One thing, Ebay now makes insurance totally the sellers responsibility.  If you don't insure and something happens, you have to pay all the money back.
So insurance is customarily added to shipping by sellers on everything now.

USPS flat rate is clearly the best deal in shipping small packages right now. Weight doesn't matter, its the cubic footage.
For larger heavier things though, they are terrible. Awful criminal expensive.

Fedex ground is the current leader on larger packages. Far and away.

UPS doesn't really want your business. They want the big accounts.
If you bring a single item in, they will crucify you.  $8 minimum on top of the regular shipping, and $10 extra if they have to come to your house to pick it up.
But if you have a big commercial account and ship dozens or hundreds of packages, they are terrifically cheap.  This is why Amazon and every other largest shipper uses them exclusively.
    yours Scott

Shipping has gone up heaps no matter where you reside. What is annoying is the US no long has a 'sea' freight, if your not in a hurry and can wait 3 months, things where cheap to ship. Canada and Austraila still have this option. Large items that cost me $35.00 to ship now cost $300.00, I don't shop for them in the US anymore.

I cant post the story here ( or anywhere ) but these sellers are out of control with their greed, innacurate descriptions and high shipping, dosent make for a happy purchaser.

Paypal crew might be a bunch of misfits ( not might be ) but I just got a pretty big settlement in my favor 1000.00 plus for three book and now the seller is wishing that he hadnt screwed with me and covered all of his bases
