Knocked down, probably, from $226.67, because s/he got no buyers at that price.

As of tonight, it's down from $226 to $163 (well, $162.96, and you have to wonder why such precision in pricing - is this seller sending coded messages?). Keep watching, and it might get down to a reasonable price in a decade or so.

If they don’t know who made it, then how would they know it was rare? My guess for a manufacturer is "Bridgeport Hardware & Manufacturing". Most of their tools are relatively common as they were a large company back in the day.
The only brand I’ve seen bring the kind of money the ebay people are asking is the "St Johnsbury" stuff.

He is a used tool dealer, he has a store in Washington NJ. He has some good wrenches from time to time but his asking prices are always high. I have submitted offers to him in the past and he usually deals with you if the item has been listed for a while.
