Title: New Britain 3/8" ratchet
Post by: Northwoods on August 12, 2018, 02:58:34 PM
I dropped by (2 hour drive) the wrench auction someone mentioned the other day.  It was in Newton, Kansas.  Had a great time.  More KKutter, Perfect Handle, Eifel Plierench (I bought six) stuff there than I can mention.
Got some Craftsman BE and Snap-on sockets, a Sweetheart No. 12W Fray-type auger, a Billmont offset ratchet, a bunch of Hinsdale wrenches, and a little New Britain rat.  I am guessing that it is a modern version of this NB 40:

The seller here calls it a NB 41, and I see one listed in the ebay sold section bearing the NB 41 mark (along with some modern metric sockets ;-),  but I see no model number on mine except for the clear letters (N      O) above the selector switch.

Anyone see a date it in a post-war catalog?

Is the pipe cutter jaw a rare part? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the wild.

Not really.  The rarer part is the V clip that helps keep pipe centered for use with the pipe cutter jaw. Most sets are missing the clip.
