Wood handle Lug wrench?
« on: July 03, 2012, 12:29:14 PM »
That's what I'm calling this. 13/16" socket end.
Looks like teens or 20's.
 Any input ?

The second one is all metal , 3/4". Possibly later 30's?

Any makers marks?  The second one looks like it may have a name on it.  Pretty cool, never seen one.

Heres a similar wood handled socket except its 3/4 across flats. No markings on this one either.

The first one with the wood knobs  is for sure a lug wrench.   But might want to think back a few years earlier to wooden wheels and demountable rims.   That is a Goodell&Pratt,  very fine tool company, bought out by Millers Falls.   Have its twin.    The second sure looks like a lug wrench also.  Not sure how they broke em loose with such a short throw.  John in Nebr.

The second one says "Motor Wheel" .I believe the rest is USA, but I'll have to check.
Thanks for showing the other wooden one.I've been collecting auto stuff 50 years and never saw one.Never expected it to be that old.
I knew it was unique.
I had them listed for sale , but I may make this my new collection to look for.
I found these two in one week.
Thanks for the input.

Those are both nice,I can't say that I have ever seen either one before,If you do decide to sell I would be interested in both. I have several different type of wheel wrenches and those would sure look good hanging next to what I have. Jim

This is a 1920s Goodell&Pratt ad, note the tool at the top of the roll.  Which also forms the handle for the tool roll.  I've thought about duplicating this but....

Here is something of a history of Motor Wheel. It looks like the old factory is being sold as Lofts.

I'm glad I found this forum, I was an Auto mechanic for 47 years and I'm hooked on old auto tools,
but not informed like you guys.To many interests and not enough time for research. Thanks for sharing.
I have some other pieces I'll take photos of and post.
