Title: Can anyone help me ID this Atha hammer?
Post by: Elliott1940 on December 18, 2019, 04:45:57 PM
The stamp says Atha Tool Co. It’s marked number 8. It has an odd shape - not sure its a regular sledge hammer head. I plan to put a shortish handle on it and use it as a deadblow/club hammer. I’m also interested to try and date it if possible?

Thanks!

Thank you for posting that. I did already look at it and does help unfortunately because the hammer heads are different to mine.

Elliot, yours looks like an old rail road spike hammer. At 8 lbs. I would put a long handle in it like original. The way the head tapers on both sides was for hitting the inside spikes easier.

Coal hammers were similarly shaped.
