Title: small engine question
Post by: moparthug on December 03, 2018, 04:10:09 PM
Hiya folks, this old go kart engine just showed up and I have no idea of it's age or who made it. The tag is badly worn down, all I can see are the numbers 56844 P21, and that it was made in Grafton WI.  I know it's not any kind of a wrench, but an engine is a tool of sorts, isn't it? :-) And it's running a Tillotson MD6A carb if that helps.

I  believe that is a POWER PRODUCTS engine. Maybe a model 1000 engine. 2 stroke type. Youtube has lots of info on them. I collect old engines, but don't have any of those.

That's it! Thanks for the quick help. It seems to in fact be a Power Products model 1000, pre-1957 as that's when they were bought out by Tecumseh, so mid 1950's vintage. And it was never designed for a go-kart (as I was told) but was used for everything from off grid clothes washing machines to water pumps for small gold dredges and a hundred other uses. Now to find a creative use for it.

Is it painted, or unfinished? If, by chance it's unfinished aluminum, it will polish up like chrome.
