1877 ANVIL WITH BUILT-IN VISE !!! wow!
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:03:25 AM »
Pardon the all caps title....This is amazing and the price - also amazing.  I'd love to have this in my shop - but I'll pass - it's bigger than anything I would need.  What a piece!

That's a nice Parker combo unit, and if it is as good as it looks, it is an excellent price.
One of you guys up there should jump on that. Maybe Lou is interested.

Yeah, I see them a lot. They were intended for farmers iirc.

and often found with the "anvil" beaten to shards by owners who thought it was a heavy duty tool.

Also seen them offered as a mini anvil, because the vise end is all broken and gone.  Got this same vise in the barn, but not in real good shape, is so greasy I never checked for a date.   Have had another combo tool like this,  got excited about it til I turned it over and found the "anvil"  was a hollow casting.   Never thought about mounting one as I have 2 vises on the bench and a 175lb. anvil 3 steps away.

It's hollow?  And smaller than a proper anvil?  Now that I look at the picture I see the chains - probably 3/8" chain and I can get an idea of the size.

If that's the case it would have been more suited to my metal working interests.  But I don't need to have it.

I have not dug out the twin to this that I own, but another brand with the vise/anvil combo,  had the hollow casting.  Was still relatively heavy.   Speaking of which I saw another style just today at a swap meet.  Saw the anvil shaped object, got close enough to see the broken vise bits on the end.

Hello, I may have  a similar anvil section of that type of vise. Sellen's Patent? The one I have is also hollow, and badly abused. I will try to post a pic later. Regardsm Lou
