Title: Norton Machine Works?

Hello, All of this came in a fitted wooden box, I bought it for the gizmo factor!!!!!  I have tried to find info on the company, or the use of this tool, but no luck. In raised lettering on the handles NORTON MACHINE WKS. ALGONA IOWA PAT. APLD. FOR . The very small knob at the top threads into the shaft of what I am calling the reamer, the reamer is labeled HIGH SPEED STEEL. The long handles turn the reamer, the short handles expand/contract the arms/claws, which I am guessing would grip some sort of flange,.The piece at bottom right has three different openings, a light squeeze, and the V-shaped piece of flat steel can be moved to another set of slots. The spanner is marked 407, I am guessing this is a Williams or Armstrong tool added to this tool kit. Thanks, Lou

 that is what crossed my mind also.

 used to resurface a water valve seat. .

Cool, I love the gizmo factor Lou! It took some digging, but I finally tracked down the patent. Patent #2,490,371 was granted to Raymond P. Norton on Dec. 6, 1949 for a portable "Pipe Facing Machine" primarily for use in milk plants.

Some interesting points (in bold) from the patent text:

....The connecting vats, tanks and various ma
chines used in milk, food processing and like
plants are interconnected by tube or pipe sys
tems formed of separate pipe lengths provided
with fittings including ferrules which are either
expanded or soldered on the ends of the pipe
lengths. These ferrules may be of either the
“tapered” type in which the mating ferrules in
a fitting are adapted for direct contact, or the
“flat” type in which a gasket or the like is inter
posed between a pair of mating ferrules in a
fitting.

In milk plants the refacing of pipe fittings is a
frequent procedure because the pipes are usually
taken apart daily to be sterilized by passing live
steam through them. It often happens that due
to the accidental dropping of a pipe, or in assem
bling pipes together that a fitting becomes dam
aged and must be refaced to eliminate leakage.....
