Title: What is this item?
Post by: coolford on January 17, 2020, 04:05:40 PM
Picked this up in a box lot some time ago, just found it again.  It is 5 inches long and the rosewood handle is 1 inch wide at the widest point.  Inlaid ivory circle on what appears to be the top side.

Probably a saw wrest for setting teeth on a saw. Too fancy to be a spoke wrench.

Hello, coolford. Glass cutter? I don't see a wheel, maybe diamond point?? Regards, Lou

I'm with Papaw.  Although it seems to be pretty pretty for such rough work.  Setting the teeth on a big boy saw.

I just remembered, it was in a small box along with hair clippers, a straight razor and a beard comb.  Does that help??

I have to agree with Lou. Some where in a box of misc I have something very similar and it is a glass cutter. It took me a while to figure it out but eventually a buddy of mine who owns a glass shop remembered seeing one several years ago and after some time on the internet I found a few similar examples. The one I have has what's left of the diamond cutter at the top of the curve on the left side of your picture.

I was thinking I may have posted a pic of what I described in my last post but going back thru my pictures I did find a similar cutter but not the one I was referring too . I had posted a picture on Dec 15 of 2018 of another one I have which I think is kind of similar. If I was a little more computer literate I could show that pic again now but that's way beyond my capabilities.

My wag will be for a musical instrument adjustment tool. Piano maybe?
I can't carry a tune but I can make a box to put one in....

Between Lou and Gibsontool I think we have it.  I looked closely at the rounded end which appeared to have a screw in it, but under a glass it turns out to be a holder for a small diamond.  Thus Lou called it for me when he mentioned diamond cutter.  It also fits for the two different sizes of the grooves as they would fit different thicknesses of glass.  Thanks for all the input.
