Title: Paint on farm wrenches
Post by: skipskip on April 24, 2013, 10:44:47 PM
I am an outsider when it comes to farm and agricultural wrenches.

When I find them I toss them in a box and assume I'll learn about them later.

I do notice that many collectors paint the brand name letters in white or yellow.

Normally painting a collectable item is frowned upon, but it seems to be accepted or even encouraged in these tools.

I heat mine up and spray them with WD-40 and wipe down. Then I paint the letters with a toothpick and craft paint. It would come back off with a swipe of a rag with a little lacquer thinner on it. Most all the big time (and small time for that matter) collectors paint the lettering. It does not affect the value what so ever.
