Another tool box
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:59:48 PM »
This box came to me by way of a tag sale.   Guy a little older than me was liquidating and moving from Nebraska to Phoenix.   He had a better shop than most, and lots of his father and grandfathers tools.   His grandfather was a machine shop operator, which explains why he purchased this box for his son.  Inside is the label (  Green Toy Works, Racine, Wisconsin, U.S.A.)  the tag is also dated, Nov.12, 1924, stock no. 70.   I had admired this little box on  a previous garage sale, but this time he had decided to trim things down for the move.   I think I paid $15, it was empty, but the tag, date, and the story of his fathers toy tool box I think was worth it.   I keep some antique woodworking things in it, seems appropriate, things that are used too.  The box is wood, covered in tin, with a leather wrapped handle.

I have a very similar box to that, don't believe it 12x12 though, maybe 8x8.
Someone had painted it a green color and it wasn't so pretty, so I removed
all the paint. Put a glossy green paint back on it and I'm not impressed.
It doesn't have the guts that yours has though, just wood.
