Major Haul 8/17/13
« on: August 17, 2013, 07:05:54 PM »
Details forthcoming, but a few teaser shots of the wrenches I picked up today.

Highlights are.....

Case mfg. co No. 1
Wheelers No. 6 chief self rake
SCP Co.  (3 open end, one hex) #613 on Dill's list
Wilder, Same style and lettering as in Rathbone, but no hex opening

Those wrenches make some of the other ones feel like no big deal, but there are tons of other good, harder to find wrenches too.

OK, totaled them up.....

245 wrenches.  60 go to my collection, the rest will move on.

12 that are exceptional, at least to me, are pictured below....

Top left is 47W Johnston Harvester

top right is Case Mfg Co 1

Wheeler's No. 6 Chief self rake, goes well with the other Wheeler wrench I found just last week

The Blackhawk is on here because it has both an S and M 167 on the back, not sure what that is all about just yet, from what I have seen it is usually an S or an M, not both

IHC V265A First I've been able to find

165G No idea about this wrench, but I really like it

last on the first picture is the SCP (syracuse chilled plow)

2nd picture...

An oddball wrench on top, no markings, I got 2 of them in the bunch, this one is slightly better

Elias Silo is next, I no longer have to envy Carl Wagner on having one and me not having one..lol, although I think his might be in better condition

Wilder, like I said earlier, no hex opening on this one

W. I. Kemp

Last is a super thick (better than 1/2 inch) oddball wrench, there was another of these, and believe it or not, an ear was broke off on it.

Auction, 6+ total hours of drive time.  I really am not a fan of wrenches that are this clean, but most were not over cleaned so I was OK with it.

Not  a steal that I normally get, but for the quality and rarity of some, I did well enough. Should be close to recouping what I had to pay with all the extras. If it had been more local, probably would have gotten all of them for about 1/10 of what I did. But these ones don't come up locally.

Outstanding haul!  They all appear to be in about the same condition. Clean and oiled, but not polished or painted. I guess it was worth the trip. Now the real work begins. Trying to sell enough to break even. Are you going to display them? If so, how?

Hmmm, that seems to be the big debate right now.  I've been sort of concentrating on Deere and NY companies...
Now I have enough outstanding ones on both accounts to make a nice display for next year's Canandaigua Steam show. Then the debate turned on how to do it. I was heading to work this morning and I had a thought on it. I will not do the whole pegboard thing. There are enough that do that all over the country and for the most part they start to look the same no matter what wrenches are on them.
So a thought came to me, just not sure if I can pull it off. I want to make up a board with the Deere logo in the background and the wrenches on it. I don't have a final product in my head yet, but I think I know the direction I want to go. The NY wrenches will be on a board cut out to the shape of New York with the wrenches in as close a proximity to their origin as possible. Big plans, but I think I actually have time to get these ones done.

If you have as many SCP wrenches as I think you do, you could build a full scale model of New York ;P

Keep pondering tho, I like it, the pegboard thing is certainly tired...

You could make an outline of NY state with the wrenches.
