Title: Spring is on the way.
Post by: coolford on March 03, 2021, 02:44:01 PM
Couple of weeks ago it was minus seven here in southern Missouri and we had nearly 10 inches of snow.  Yesterday I noticed one of my crocus was blooming, but of course that doesn't mean winter is through with us yet.

Here in Central New York State we've barely been above freezing since December.  Next week a break is forecast.  Today I saw a robin, for what its worth.  The real avian sign of spring seems to me to be the red-winged blackbird.  Still looking for him.

3 weeks back, 100% snow cover and minus 21F, today almost 70,  sunny with warm southerly breezes.   Am afraid it is a false spring in Nebraska.

We had 17 or so degrees not so long ago. Not something we see here just south of Houston. Lots of folks with broken pipes, etc. many without power for days, but we escaped with only one pipe broken.
The last few days have been 60 to 70 and in the 30s at night.
After a short ride Sunday to shoot some photos, we pulled in the yard and the wife spied a Robin. I was only able to get one shot of him before he flew away .

Papaw, my wife mentioned that a lot of crops were ruined by the frost.  Is that so?  Way too early for crops here.

The citrus crop in the Rio Grande Valley was lost in the freeze. It will be lost for two years. It may take years to bounce back.

The soccer fields in the park near my house have been visited by flocks of robins for weeks.

Two sure signs of spring:
1.  The yard sale guy who tells me that I should have been there last week when he sold all his tools...
2.  The next door neighbor burns off his leaves and comes within a few feet of my garage before all hell cines visiting.

Good times.

Along the Missouri flyway am seeing tens of thousands of snow geese and Canadians.   Many have taken over the lakes.  Yesterday saw several hundred white Pelicans and some seagulls.   This one lake and wetland looked like it had snow cover,  just birds.  Eastern Nebraska.   If I felt like a 5 hour drive,  could go west to observe the the Sandhill crane migration.  And we have some snow coming by the weekend.
