Title: Newbie, first impressions
Post by: naseller on November 29, 2013, 06:18:44 PM
These were all stored outdoors in five gallon buckets probably for the past twenty years.

Looks like you inherited a well pump guy's stash. There is some cool stuff there. I don't know if it is possible, but it would be a lot easier if you could number the photos somehow. What sort of things are you interested in? There is a cultivator wrench about in the middle of the top board in the top photo and I see monkey wrenches under pipe wrenches in the last pic. I like unusual monkey wrenches. A side note. I live a couple of blocks from the old Doerr Motor factory and my next door neighbor is Lee Doerr's daughter. She is 90 years old and has lots of stories about his inventions. Let us know what you would like to swap for.
Thanks,

John

All of my regular pics are too large to upload here, but I've posted almost all the full size ones on the flickr account.

Welcome!  It is a nice ole pile of rusty things, much of which reminds me of days past.

I'm curious to learn more about the ratchet pictured here.  It seems to have a detachable head on a small diameter shank.

The shank is not detachable on that ratchet.

Hey OilyRascal
I finally got around to taking some more pics of that ratchet, the shank apparently is detachable

Thanks for posting detailed pictures of that ratchet.  I really like it.  I must wonder what the story is with having a detachable handle.  Compact storage?  Interchangeable tooling?

Handles bend when a piece of "pipe" is slid onto it for more torque.
I'm too old now to even think of breaking loose headbolts requiring that much effort.
Instead, I could fire up the compressor, set to a high air flow, and then use my USA made 3/4" drive air ratchet!

That is a key cutter grinder!   Kind of a big layout, usually the motor unit is rather compact.  Like the idea of a shield over the wire brush.   Looks like a brand new oiler or water separator, for inline air too.   Have you hit bottom yet?  Was there more than just the buckets?

No, I haven't hit bottom yet, just barely scratching the surface.
