Steel implement seats
« on: May 04, 2013, 09:46:43 PM »
Since when are plain steel implement seats worth $20 each?? Can't even begin to guess how many I used to see struggle to even bring $1, now that I would like to find a few they are bringing almost as much as cast iron ones. Actually, I picked up a couple cast seats today for less than what the steel ones were bringing? I would say that it was just a one time thing, but at the last 3 auctions I've gone to that had them, they have brought at least $10 each.

I am beginning to understand why all the farmers I have met are so ornery.

They have all been driving around tractors with no seats...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

All the ones I come across are at least 25 dollars, I wouldn't mind having one to turn into a stool but not at 25 dollars.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

I've stumbled onto 2 Fordson stamped steel seats over the years, for cheap, sold both on eBay for $300+ each and shipped them to the UK.  They have FORDSON in large letters stamped across where the cutout letters are on the cast iron seats. I've looked at many Fordson tractors at shows and never seen one on a tractor. Maybe they were a short run item or only on certain models?  As far as the plain seats being worth more--- I think it's whatever fad shows up in home decorating magazines. Women who would normally never even look at a big old greasy $2 galvanized funnel, let alone touch one, are now spending $20 to buy them for hanging light shades.
