Leather Sole Screwdriver
« on: May 04, 2014, 03:48:02 PM »
I have a thing for leather handled drivers, unfortunately they seem to be hard to find. I got lucky at a garage sale this week and found the one at the top of my want list. Pretty Cool.

Going metaphysical here, are you saying our tools have souls? I like it Scott. The manufacturer says sole leather in the catalog.

Oops... The maker is P&C, 1920's to early 30's. They also say in their catalog that its "practically everlasting". Men were tough back then, very heavy for a driver. They also made a version with changeable blades.

Here is another leather handled driver.  Quite a bit different in that this one was patented by I. S. Davidson March 1, 1904(no. 753,241), and manufactured by Russell Jennings Mfg. Co.  As you can see it uses replaceable/interchangeable tips.

This was the first leather handled driver I had seen.  Obviously it was not as unique as I had originally thought.

That's a beaut Mike, thanks for showing it. Here's the rest of my little collection. The middle one was made by Truth, bottom one is not marked but could be MTF as it was found with a large group of that brand tools.
