It is for opening bottles of wine. You work the tines down on each side of the cork with a side to side rocking motion and then pull it straight up. They do work quite well.

Very cool tool to have!

Tsk Tsk...*real* wine comes with pull tabs, everyone knows that ....

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I can never get that style to work for me. In a pinch I have used a long drywall screw tho.

They work, you just have to twist while you are extracting the cork!

They are useful for old dried out corks that disintegrate with a conventional cork screw - mind you if the cork is that bad, the wine is often undrinkable - keep your bottles lying on their side to keep the cork moist...

Screw tops on wine?? They are the work of the Devil......

Recent testing seems to show that a good screw top works as well as a good cork.  But it's still the work of the Devil!

Almost as bad are plastic corks.... and both are putting the cork oak growers out of business as well.... If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

Every bit as bad if you ask me.   Cork is nice and friendly.

Duckbill pliers work well on the bags wine comes in.
