Title: whats the deal with these dies
Post by: 1930 on August 30, 2014, 05:59:21 PM
And why do they call them dies.

I got a few of the type on the left, they are un-like any others I have owned. They appear like nuts but are clearly dies. They are thicker than a conventional die. Are these a low budget version of a typical die as seen on the right?

Hard to tell by the picture I posted but they are considerably thicker, you would swear you were looking at some weird nut until you looked at the threads.

They are re-threading dies - just for cleaning up threads - not cutting threads.

Given the small chip relief , I would suspect they are thread chasers....
