Title: Two Vintage C-Man Sanders
Post by: dimwittedmoose51 on February 01, 2014, 11:10:25 PM
Went to an auction locally today and there were a ton of old Craftsman woodworking power tools out there for the taking.  I passed on a lot of them but couldn't resist these two.  The 3" belt sander is in great condition and doesn't spark when it runs.  The dual action sander is fairly quiet also no visible sparks.   The case for the belt sander is near immaculate as well.   The other Sears goodie was a late 80's version 12" wood lathe(which I'll likely never use) with 8 old C-man wood gouges and the pattern frame.  Spent $22.50 on it and the chisels are worth more than that.  The two sanders went for $2.50 each.  There were two old C-man belt drive  table saws that only brought $25 each, but I already had one of those......

NICE tools!!

whats the 'spark when runs' deal?

I thought all old electric tools sparked as a design feature.

Skipskip:  If the sparks are bright enough to light up your sanding area, then it's time to fix something...lol.  I couldn't see any sparking on either of these, but maybe the armature was out of view.....

Finishing sanders like the one pictured are fairly prevalent but it sounds like you got one in good working order. As for the biggin, man, you stole that.

No, sold it like a week later for $140.  IT was the 39" Craftsman with the belt drive motor, forgotten the model #.  Mid-late 80's vintage.  There's a nearly brand new on here in CF for $200 i saw yesterday.  Guy said it's been spun about 10 minutes.
