You can go to your local Radio Shack & pick up a new type N alkaline.  Mine still works, although slightly yellow.  I've always taken the battery out when not using it to avoid the corrosion.  Battery is actually readily available.

27 inches extended.  It has a light, but no battery.  No idea if the light works.

Those bench pucks are also extremely handy.

I had many conversations with Mike Imel via Tool Talk messages , and via email. I always enjoyed our chats , and he was a big help to me with my foray into vise collecting , especially the smaller Wilton vises. Rest in peace, Mike Imel.

The wooden fork could have been used to lift clothes from a very hot laundry tub.  My grandmother would boil sheets with just a small amount of soap, in a tub on top the wood stove.

I have a heavy Craftsman version.  Is hand held with knobs and handles.  The motor looks like it is from a router but cannot be removed.  Also 1950s, in a Craftsman steel box, with manuals and an accessory or two.  Still full polished, and too heavy for daily use.
