Still can't figure this out

Does anyone know what model this belt sander is?  I'm thinking it is 1920's.  The model plate has been removed, but the casting does say porter cable.  The motor is engraved "No. 10"

Wow. That is some sander, used for sanding edges of wooden floors I guess? Love the brass door handle!

Thanks Rusty, but I don't think it is the take about sander.  When I look at those models I believe they look like the locomotive type.

The locomotive style did not exist in 1926.  But the name "Take-About Sander " was coined in '26 for Porter Cable's *first* portable belt sander.  The photo on the page (next to paragraph above the paragraph Rusty quoted) sure looks like yours.

Porter Cable apparently used the Take About name for quite some time, and for various different types of sanders.

I very much suspect your sander evolved into the first locomotive type, look at this picture, note the wood front handle, and where the power cord goes in at the top. Under the pretty alumnium cover, it is basicly the same sander, dressed up ....

The 1928 patent is actualy titled 'Floor Finishing machine", and it did take 5 years from application to issue...
