Another inherited tool mad by New Britain. I have another smaller one and the head is all mushroomed from beating on it, but for what?

 a better description of the tool would help, such as on the non-striking end, is there female treads in it ?

Added photo of I guess business end and a smaller unit I referenced. If it's an axle puller you thread this on the axle outer threads and whack it? Markings on the larger one 1" - 14, the smaller one marked 3-4, I find no manufacturer marking. Both items have a small hole in the threaded end, I guess to relieve pressure.

Older cars, trucks and tractors had tapered axles that were fastened to the wheel hub by a nut. To remove the wheel hub you had to remove the nut, thread on a wheel knocker of the correct size to 1/8 in. or so of the hub and wack with your hammer of choice, preferably a big one.

Thanks for the description. With it was able find others for sale online. Haven't found New Britain digital catalog reprint only paper for sale.
