"Happy Planet Thrift Store"

Purchased in a thrift shop in a near dead shopping mall, Fingerlakes Mall in Auburn NY.  This mall used to have name brand stores and restaurants (Sears, Friendly's) but now only Penney's and an old movie theater.  The rest of the mall has been taken over by Bass Pro and RV sales.  The remaining shops are variety shops full of imported junk - and this Happy Planet Thrift Store which seems to be associated with a company that does clean-outs of homes, basements, etc.
Tools were a buck apiece.

Yes, pebble pattern.  I like the Proto pebbles much more than the Plomb.

I don't want the Proto - selling it.  It's in slightly rough shape with the chrome bare/peeling.  But the other tools have found a place in my shop or at work.  I have a pretty large selection of service wrenches but did not have a 1-7/16", so a good addition.

How do you use the screw starter?  For starting holes in wood?  Do any of you find them useful?

It's for starting screws in holes that are restricted or buried too far in for your finger to hold the screw on the end. No high torque, though. You get the screw placed and started with the screw starter, then pull it off and final drive with a regular screwdriver. I have a growing family of them myself.

If a place like that opened up near me I'd be in there once a week for sure drooling over new items, making conversation with the staff, buying stuff without haggling, etc.

I have seen Proto 1/2 and 1 inch drive pebble ratchets on eBay a few times. The one inch models seem to be common, the 1/2 inch models not so much.

Hello, Al. Bonneyman. I don't think that is a screw starter as described. I think (without having it in my hand) that it is used to start threads in a hole for a wood screw. Regards, Lou

Hi Lou.  Correct.  The Husky has screw threads for starting a hole.  They are called screw starters which can confuse them with screw holding screw starters.  And I like that yellow phillips in the photo, Bonneyman.  I have several but I don't think I have a phillips.

Hello, Al. thanks! I have a Phillips screw starter, same style as the one that bonneyman posted, but mine is a newer one from Klein. Not quite as stylish as the one bonneyman posted. Regards, lou
