After measuring the area where the handle would go, it would appear that the ends are both .75"  the length is about 2.25 " because of the screw on cap on the outer end, the length is adjustable by a little,  but 2.25 is what I would say it is.  My guess is that it would be a little larger in the middle but not much.  I just assume there is a little belly or bulge in the center of the handle.  My lathe is down or I would have one cut,  still trying to get my lathe to run.  I adapted a Treadmill motor to it to make it variable speed about 3 years ago and  something has stopped working.  I have enough components to replace every thing to get it running again, it just takes time.

Mel
your wood stock should be ~1"D min?, my hardwood planks maybe too thin at 3/4"thick... unless it is oval i.e. 3/4"x1"D may just fit...

oldtools, Thanks for the offer but I have a ton of hardwood pieces on hand;,,a guy that makes gun stocks, gave me a big box of scraps from stocks he had cut out. And my daughter makes Intarsia items from wood and I think she probably has a chunk of every kind of hard wood available.  I just need my metal lathe to run.
Thanks again.

I have just found an eight inch Girard wrench in my old shed. Same as the one u are doing up. If u are needing measurements would be quite happy to do a scale drawing of the handle for you. I am in OZ, a long way away, but the internet is sure a wonderful thing
