Chicago Malleable Iron Co
« on: February 20, 2022, 11:09:09 AM »
First good find of the new year at an old barn sale. A Chicago Malleable Iron Co adjustable, pat dates of Sept 1875 and June 1876, worked hard and has a bend towards the bottom adjuster but still functions. Also a cute little R.Jenning end nippers, a big 1920's Footprint brand pipe wrench made in England, and a 8 inch Hart draw knife. $15 for the lot.
Rogue River, OR.

Cool old stuff!  If it's a malleable wrench it should able to be straightened I would think.

I had 1 just about identical many years ago but marked "CRANE Chicago", it had same patent info as yours.  If I member right this was before internet and i was a member of MVWC.  I mailed photos to the editor and it got highlighted in one of the later issues.  It later brought $200 on ebay.  I still got my old newsletters somewhere here.... I'm gonna see if I can find it.

Mine just has the patent date and a much smaller hammer poll.

The CRANE BROS.  (also found marked PANCOAST & MAULE) wrench is connected to another set of patents -- 140.111 ; 155,139 ; RE7,910 ; 206,733.  Past MVWC Newsletter mentions include pg. 17, Dec. 2001 ;  pg. 19, /sept 2013 ; pg. 19, June 2017.   The design includes a hammer poll & different form of  connecting the two main pieces compared to the McCormick patent.
