IHC CP4003

For some reason, a wrench with a hammer poll will always come home with me if I see one.  The latest is theis IHC CP4003 wrench.  No idea if its old, new...just has the look I like.

When I asked for info on the one I used to have I got a few good clues.

  They are relatively rare but not especially valuable.   From 20 to 40 dollars depending on condition.  Mine was rough.
   A fan of IH tools says CP is for Chatanooga Plow Co. and the mark was used between 1914 and 1944.  IHC owned CP C. those years.
  This is most probably a tool for a horse drawn plow.

I was unable to verify or debunk any of this but then again he already owns the wrench for half a year now.

There are 4 variations of this wrench. Irps lists usage as McCormick Deering walking plow;McCormick Deering double shovel walking cultivator No 1 & No 2: McCormick Deering Chattanooga cane mill;McCormick Deering potato digger No 3.
Rathbone shows $ 2.50-5 as auction price;have not checked more recent auctions.

I do need to get to know Mr. Rathbone better!

   Mine was the IHC old logo.   I had it tucked away months before cleaning it enough to read the logo.

Thanks for the info.  Jimwrench, the copy you have is MUCH, MUCH more pretty that the one I have, but since I am only into mine for $5, I am pretty happy!

I don't know which variation is hardest to find but if you find an avid IHC collector who has a couple of variations and needs the one you have the value is likely to improve considerably.
