Title: Wiss & Sons B.X. Cutter
Post by: Hoarder on May 14, 2017, 09:56:35 PM
We need an electrical section. What I found in the bottom of toolbox was a rusted cutting pliers. After extensive clean-up found Wiss & Sons Newark NJ on one side and D.H. Reddy BX Cutter Pat, appl'd for on the other. From Wiss's 1934 catalog attached it states improved cutter and stripper. This one doesn't have the cutting notch so must predate the catalog. Note the side which has apparent arching damage to shear tip and pivot nut. I don't think I would have wanted my hand on this when that happen.

Great find! And cool that you were able to date it from the catalog photo.

(I checked and was unable to locate any patent info on it)

I have since found that this cutter is in the 1930 catalog.

Which means people have been cursing when having to cut flexible conduit for (at least) 87 years!
