Title: old blade ?
Post by: RedVise on April 15, 2017, 06:32:28 PM
Not sure why, but could not pass on this old blade.
Not sure if this is an old deteriorated blade or an attempt at forging a blade?
The grooves seem to indicate a manufacturer (guessing now) ?
Looks like a circle where a tang would go.

I have picked up some carbon steel knives and this is heavier than them.
Also recently picked up a fur trade era trade knife, again this is heavier.

Thanks  Brian

One heavy looking knife blade.   Does have a manufactured look, with those grooves.   Have you tried a file on the edge yet?   Just to see how hard It is?

Don't the Old Hickory knives have those grooves?

Yes Old Hickory has those  and I just checked and found one similar to the OP marked "Forge craft - hi Carbon"  with those long marks. Mine has two rivets in the scales. Looks like the OP may originally have had only two, then a couple more added at home.

I am very glad to have the opportunity to read this useful information. It is my new knowledge.
