Interesting wrench, My first thoughts lead me to a valve type wrench of some sort. Especially since they were trying to patent it. I don't see to many farm implement wrenches that were patented on their own.

Just to make sure... You don't see any sort of a maker's mark or logo on it anywhere, right?

I really like the looks of the wrench. I hope I can dig through patents and find something on it.

on a side note...... I REALLY like seeing the green leaves and flowers in the background. Makes me think that maybe it will be spring and warm weather might eventually return.

I just took a closer look, and thought some more.....
Is it possible that it is a precursor to our modern day 4-way lug wrench for autos?
Could one get enough leverage with it for such a use?

>4-way lug wrench for autos?

But what would the big (inch?) square hole in the middle fit? hmm

I was thinking that the square in the center would/could be for axle nuts. Sort of a combo wrench...last of the horse and buggy, first of the autos? Heck, I don't know, just tossing wild thoughts in the air, maybe something will catch.

I'm by no means an old car guy.... but didn't some of the early hub caps have square heads to turn them off?

No other marks except 'patent appl'd for'. Would take a real man to loosen
lug nuts with these 4 1/2 long arms. Does have ribs like the ones on the
vertical arms on all four arms on back side.

Now I remember what it looks like, it looks like one of those multi valve wrenches for oil/water trucks, ones with 6 socket ends....
