Default hand saw

Does anyone know who made these? Some cleaning might reveal an answer, but I just wondered if anyone was familiar with this style. It is a cast iron handle and I've been told these were used in underground mines. This is old mining country and I see them occasionally. I used to have one with a differently designed handle, but I let it go for a few dollars. Just how scarce are these in other parts of the country?

I'm looking to buy or trade for tools that came in car 'toolkits', also would like "sets" , sockets, wrenches , or other tools in their original boxes.

It's called a docking saw, and was used for cutoff of heavy timbers where heavy framing was used. Makes sense to be associated with mining, as heavy timbers were used to shore up tunnels. That one looks like one in a Disston catalog I have, although Atkins and a few others made them, as well. Not your normal everyday saw, but they are not especially rare, either.

I have the same saw out in my shop. Paid a dollar for it at a garage sale. I like the idea of the metal handle.

Didn't some of the smaller ice saws have handles like that?

Yes. they did. The difference is that ice saws have much larger teeth and are straight back. The one posted has a skew back and about 4 or 4 1/2 tpi.

I was just trying to give lite to other styles of saws that used a similar handle. I know that the saw pictured wasn't an ice saw sorry for any confusion.
